Superintendent Admits to Hiding Gender Transition from Parents

Through a Right to Know request, a parent uncovered a form called the "Gender Support Plan" that West Chester Area School District staff complete once a student expresses a desire to change their gender. On the form are several questions pertaining to how communication with parents will be handled when they don't support their child's gender transition. This parent exposed the Gender Support Plan at the October 25 WCASD school board meeting, and concluded her remarks by asking Superintendent Bob Sokolowski if the district is hiding gender transition from parents. After explaining the use of the Gender Support Plan, Sokolowski admitted that when he was the Principal at one of the district's high schools (B. Reed Henderson H.S.) he kept a girl's gender transition from her parents, per her request.
