Director of Equity equates MLK with Nation of Islam

In a talk given to 7th graders about how to be an activist, the Directory of Equity, Percy Brown, equates the work of Martin Luther King Jr with that of the Nation of Islam, Black Panthers, Fidel Castro, and Che Guevara.

The full quote is:
"And, you know, some things that people really don't know about that particular time in U.S. history is that there were several leaders across the nation that were really fighting for social justice during this time period. Dr. King was the leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and a lot of his efforts were focused in the southern portion of the United States of America. But on the East Coast and across parts of the Midwest, you had the Nation of Islam under the leadership of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. But the most vocal person in terms of that movement was Malcolm X. But on the West Coast, which came maybe a few years after Dr. King and Malcolm X was actually assassinated, was the rise of the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California. So there were a lot of movements going on that there was even a strong Native American movement that was happening in the West Coast at the same time as the Black Panther Party movement. A lot of people don't know. There is this famous prison called Alcatraz that literally sits on the island of San Francisco Bay.

And a lot of Native Americans actually took that prison over as a form of protest for for social justice. But we also had a Latino movement that was going on at the same time with leaders such as Cesar Chavez. But if you looked in Latin America like Cuba, you have to tell Castro and also Che Guevara."

The way he seamlessly transitions from the activism of the civil rights movement and MLK to the activism of the Nation of Islam, the Black Panthers, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro is distressing.
