Story:

My child's 8th grade teacher for a Reading elective class mentioned to me that she was proud of my son for "sharing his inner and outer identities." Red flag was raised and upon asking my child, the teacher asked the 8th g students sexual preference and sexual orientation and had an assignment addressing Intersectionality of the characters in the book being read---but also included a column for the student's "identities. The follow on assignment included an analysis of power, privilege and microaggressions in the book--but again, also asked for the student's analysis of their own power, privilege, etc based on their "identities" as oppressor or oppressed. I addressed this with teacher and directly stated it was not her job to teach a discriminatory social ideology but rather her job was to meet the Georgia Standards of Excellence which included understanding literary technique and how to annotate a book. I spoke with both the Asst Principal and Principal, who I believe, were not aware what the teacher was doing, and they advised me they instructed the teacher to "stick to the standards." Unfortunately it was necessary for me to stay tuned in to class assignments, letting the teacher know I was following along, to ensure nothing was slipped in.
